We believe we are one human family on earth, called to care for each other — and that when you give to the poor, it is like lending to the Lord.
Caring Hands Mother Teresa Home was established in honour of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, to serve those in dire need with the same spirit of devoted, hands-on love that defined her life's work. We are one of the pioneering rehabilitation centres in South India, taking a spiritual and holistic approach to mental health, elder care, and support for the terminally ill and homeless.
We treat the family that comes to us for help as our own — offering the same acceptance and security a person would find at home. It is why we describe every one of our institutions the same way: a home away from home.
Twenty-five years of growth, rooted in decades of experience
1977
Fr. Antony Mannarkulam begins working in mental health treatment and rehabilitation, developing what would become the 'Sanjeevani Model' of psychosocial recovery.
1992
The Sanjeevani Rehabilitation Centre is registered — the first psychosocial rehabilitation centre of its kind in Kerala. The foundation stone is laid on 3 June at Nedumkunnam.
1993
The first building is blessed and dedicated to the public on 18 December.
1995
Construction of the original buildings is completed on 6 March, and residents begin arriving for treatment.
2000
An outpatient wing opens in January. Later that year, Mother Teresa Home is founded within Sanjeevani, named for Mother Teresa of Calcutta, taking in its first ten women residents.
2001
A larger, three-acre campus is founded; the foundation stone is laid on 3 June and the new building is blessed on 3 December by Bishop Mar Mathew Anikuzhikattil.
2008
Karuna Bhavan (for women) and Alphonsa Sadan (for men) open as the third stage of the Triangle Model of rehabilitation.
2009–2018
Fr. James Pazhayamadam joins as Assistant Director in 2009, working alongside founder Fr. Antony Mannarkulam, and becomes Director in 2018.
2015
Caring Hands Mother Teresa Home Charitable Trust is formally registered.
2016
Ammaveedu, our residential wing for the elderly, opens on 5 September.
2020
Our founder, Fr. Antony Mannarkulam, passes away, leaving behind an irreplaceable legacy of care.
2022
Mother Teresa Care Home, Vandanam is inaugurated on 5 July, supporting patients and families at Alappuzha Medical College.
2024
Mother Teresa Care Home, Athirampuzha opens on 5 January for dialysis and transplant patients. On 8 December, the foundation stone for Tony's Villa — named in memory of our founder — is laid at Mylady.
2024–2025
We celebrate our Silver Jubilee year, twenty-five years since Mother Teresa Home first opened its doors.
