About this program
Mother Teresa Home grew out of the Sanjeevani Rehabilitation Centre, founded in 1992 as the first psychosocial rehabilitation centre of its kind in Kerala. In 2000, a dedicated wing named for Mother Teresa of Calcutta opened its doors to ten women with nowhere else to turn — the beginning of what has since grown into a 140-bed residential community.
We follow the Triangle Model of rehabilitation, addressing the short-term, medium-term and long-term needs of every resident through a combination of psychiatric treatment, counselling, occupational therapy and spiritual care. Residents are guided back toward a functional, dignified life rather than simply being confined — many take part in farming, animal husbandry and household work as part of their own recovery.
Round-the-clock nursing, a consulting psychiatric team, and a staff of social workers, counsellors and caregivers support residents who often have nowhere else to be cared for. Since our founding we have walked alongside more than 4,500 individuals.
